Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a Psychotherapist. A Psychotherapist provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and nonjudgmental.

YES! We direct bill to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and the Autism Funding Program (ASD).

You may wish to contact your extended provider prior to contacting our office. Many plans have very specific requirements in terms of coverage details and it is helpful if you know this information prior to calling so we can help you in moving forward and making the best use of your available coverage.

You will be forwarded an intake form to fill out and provide back to SOM Counselling, prior to your first appointment. This way, it saves us time in your first session by getting some of the administrative responsibilities out of the way and we can get a head start on getting to discuss the most important thing. You!

During the first session we will review your intake form with you as well as go over the Informed Consent. The Informed Consent describes your rights and the ethical and legal guidelines of your counsellor. After the paperwork has been taken care of, you will have the opportunity to share some of your story and the process leading you to seek counselling support. In the sessions that follow, the client and counsellor will collaborate towards accomplishing the client’s goals.

All of your information is held confidentially according to the highest ethical standards outlined by our professional governing bodies.

There are certain limits to confidentiality which will be reviewed with you in your first session.

Counselling sessions are typically a 50-minute hour. Should you want longer sessions, they can be made in consultation with your counsellor.

It is difficult to estimate the length of Psychotherapy because each person’s situation is unique. The first few sessions with your therapist will be an evaluative period during which you can discuss your goals and expectations.

50 Minute individual sessions range from $160 – $180.

All sliding scale spots are currently filled.

There are many benefits to counselling, and each individual client determines their personal goals. Benefits may be an increased ability to live more effectively by improving your ability to cope with life pressures, family relationships & friendships. You may also gain better understanding of yourself, your goals and values that will assist you in your personal growth and career goals. Therapy can help a person gain new understanding about themselves, their relationships, and how it is currently assisting or hindering them in achieving their goals. Therapy allows a person to learn new ways of coping and solving their own identified problems. Therapy can help a person develop new skills and to change behaviour patterns that aren’t working for them. Therapy can contribute to improved ability to cope with stress and difficult situations and can increase understanding of self and others.

There are risks to the therapeutic process. Counselling may involve the risk of remembering unpleasant events and may arouse strong emotions and feelings.

The accepted methods of payment are Debit, E-Transfer, Visa, or Mastercard

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, no problem! We completely understand that things can come up unexpectedly. Just ensure that you provide us with 48 hours notice and we will be happy to accommodate you. Please note that there is a full session fee charge if less than 48 hours notice is provided.
